Podcast #3 with Ana Marie Cox and Musician Todd Steed

We have an interesting discussion with Ana Marie Cox, the ex-Wonkette, and internet musician, Todd Steed. Ana Marie discusses women bloggers, sex, her new book(s) and how she feels about quitting the blogosphere. We also discuss, drugs, high school and rock and roll with Todd Steed-- Take a listen here to the podcast. Or subscribe via iTunes or the RSS Feed.

If this interests you, check out Ana Marie's novel, Dog Days, and Todd Steed's new CD, Heart Break and Duct Tape, some of which you can also hear online for free here.

And, as always, if you've got any suggestions, put them in the comments!

Update: For those of you who just want a highlight of the podcast in written form--sisu has it here.

What are the photo credits for the AMC pic? That's the best picture of her I've ever seen. - AA

Very entertaining podcast, and it sounds great--not surprisingly, perhaps.

One minor sound issue that I found a bit distracting: you seem to have some kind of noise-limiter on the voices that makes the output drop to zero between discrete words, and in a long pause it can be a little jarring. I guess in the longer pauses the lack of sound signals to me that an edit has just been made, but then the person keeps talking.

Don't know enough about the technical aspects, but either more noise or less (in order to eliminate entirely the "noise tails" that follow people's words) might fix the problem. If it is a problem, that is, and if it's reparable at all.

Anyway, as I say, in general a great job, and a great pleasure to listen to.

My husband and I listened to the Podcast last night. He said that Glen's I.Q. had to be double the average man's and I responded, "Hey, what about Helen's?" You both sounded very polished and reasoned.

Ms. Ex-Wonkette sounded like she just flew in from the Valley all "um" and "like". It seems that many women under the age of 25 or maybe up to 30 sound perpetually adolescent in their language usage.

What fun. Your therapist's skills and subtle humor -- "Like baking? -- drew the young woman out perhaps farther than she had meant to go. Her pleading "can we talk about the book" near the end of the interview was most poignant. PLUS, you provided this listener with grist for my own blogmill:

"Glenn, have you ever been attacked in a sexualized way?"

Dr. Melissa,

Glad you liked the podcast. I think it is hard in speaking for any period to avoid the Umm's and Uhh's. I notice I do it much more if I am doing most of the talking because you have to think as you talk.

Where does this idea that women aren't blogging as much as men come from? Of the 30 or so blogs I look at, about 25 are written by women. I look at political blogs, education blogs, cooking, daily journal type blogs, issues in motherhood and fatherhood blogs, fertility and adoption blogs, art blogs, literature blogs etc. Is there a statistic out there that I'm not aware of? Or is this referencing only "A Listers"? Does a fertility blog that often has 100+ comments count as an "A lister"?

Just keeps on getting better. (High school meme)AMC reminds me of my high school girlfriend. A marathon talker, well worth listening to who thought while she talked and as a result kept coming up with some unique insights.(/High School Meme)

Enjoyed Todd's music; not the first time since I always follow Glenn's music links to the end. Discovered Audra from the New Year's link that way.

Keep on keepin' on.
