Suspicious Circumstances

I posted a while ago on a local Knoxville woman who killed her second husband and her first husband was suspiciously trampled by cattle which was ruled an accident. Many people locally (myself included) wondered if the first husband's death was no accident. I read today in my local newspaper, The Knoxville News-Sentinel, that finally, the prosecution is requesting that the first husband's body be exhumed and an autopsy performed:

The 1992 death of Knox County District Attorney General Ed Dossett was "highly suspicious" and his body should be exhumed for a second autopsy, according to the special prosecutors who are preparing to try his widow for the death of her second husband.

Tenth District Attorney General Steve Bebb of Cleveland, whose office has been assigned the murder case against Raynella Dossett Leath, filed a petition Tuesday seeking a judge's order to exhume Ed Dossett's remains for "a full and complete post mortem examination."

It's about time. Both of this woman's husbands are dead, she was charged with attempted murder of another man in 1995 and was never convicted and now, finally, the first death looks suspicious and maybe, another autopsy might be performed. If she had been a man and the victims women, the media would have been all over it like this.

If the evidence shows she killed her first husband, I hope she gets the severest penalty allowed by law for all the deaths she has caused. You're right that if she had been a man, the media, plus the courts, would be all over this, making assumptions of guilt with very little evidence. People need to start being held accountable for their actions completely regardless of their genders, or religion, or race, or any other unimportant factoid.

It's time for society to wake up before the pendulum swings too far the other way.

No doubt she has some heart-rending sob story about how she is addicted to dangerously abusive men. If the men weren't violent monsters in life, they will be in death when she goes to court, I'm guessing.

In many ways, when you get down to it, our society treats women like they're children, and a lot of women still want to be treated like that. If this weren't the case, then so many of the arguments that these crazy women use to defend their actions wouldn't hold up before a jury.

I, sadly, have to agree with Miket.

There's a double standard of massive size at play whenever a female is violent to a male. Somehow, HE, the victim, is almost always at fault.

OH I know! You can point to rare cases where this is not true like that woman who walked up to a cruiser and shot a cop to death. They are the exception!

What we may well be talking about here is a Black Widow. She's killed multiple husbands and boyfriends before being caught. The data, when compiled, will show her as killing one, even though she killed Two? Three? Four? More?

That's what I, as a woman, fear. That the culture will go 'all the way' in deciding that women are not competent adults, and devolve us legally to the status of minor children. I know some women seem to want this, but I sure as hell don't. Most women don't even see this as a possibility. They just think it's great and even "just" that women get such "special" treatement. I don't. I see it as the cancer it is, one that hurts men, but also in the end will hurt women too.

I want to vote, i want to own property, I DON'T want to be given 200 lashes because I was in the car with an unrelated male. So I am more than willing to take responsibility for my actions. If I kill a guy, gimme the chair. If I abuse my children, take them from me and give them to their father.

And seriously, as the mother of a son, I don't know what to tell him. Half the time I am sorely tempted to tell him to live a life of celibacy, and to have nothing to do with women, just because figuring out which women are the nut jobbers and which are not seems to be really hard to do.

I think when you commit murder all suspicious deaths from your past should be allowed in the trial.

M,

I am with you on the responsibility aspect of how women should be treated. To achieve true equality with men, we must also have responsibility and be treated equally under the law, not with special treatment that says we are children. That said, there are many terrific women out there, I would actually say the majority of women are decent hardworking people. I point out the inequalities between men and women on this blog as a way to say that women are adults who in a free society, must be treated as such and not as children. But I certainly hope that you do not come away from this discussion thinking that most women are "nut jobbers." This is not true--while I don't care what many other people who do not get this blog think, I care what you and other kind and reasonable people think and hope that you do not get the idea here that I think men should stay away from women, I do not.

I don't know, Doc. I think a woman who offs her husband by getting cows to trample him would probably qualify as a nut job in most states.

m. & Dr. Helen: I've long thought that as double standards and misandry grow we will reach a point whereat most men explode in fury/rage. Could that cause a Taliban like government here? I would hope not, yet I would be silly to say it is not possible.

I think most women are decent enough, just like the men. I do think though that many women do not care much about what happens to their own menfolk, never mind unknown males. It looks that way. Most men care about women they'll never meet, it just doesn't look like that for women.

Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe.... I can only see the appearance and it doesn't look good. Sometimes appearances are all one has to go on.

m. ::: Teach your son to LOOK at women, look under the skin. Look at how she behaves and how she thinks. This needs to be done for all boys, you can start.

"And seriously, as the mother of a son, I don't know what to tell him."

As the mother of a son, I talk to him about the type of woman he should seek to marry if/when that time comes. Someone who shares his religious beliefs, values, and goals, whom we are able to get to know well and whose parents we can get to know. A woman who agrees with him on issues related to children. A woman who is not manipulative or high-maintenance. This should help avoid the nutjobbers. (Not foolproof, of course.)

And, (I almost don't dare to say this), a woman who will let him be the head of the family, will respect him, and will defer to him when making difficult decisions. Of course we will raise him to love and respect his wife, listen to her wise counsel, treat her as his partner, and do everything, always, for the good of his family, even at personal expense. Just like his dad.
