I was very saddened to read that actor Brad Renfro died; he was a Knoxville native:

Actor Brad Renfro is dead, the Los Angeles County Coroner confirmed to Access Hollywood.

Renfro's body was discovered at his home in the Wilshire area of Los Angeles, by his girlfriend, authorities told the LA Times.

He was declared dead at 9 AM, a coroner’s spokesperson told the paper....

The talented actor found himself in frequent trouble with the law beginning in the late ‘90s in his hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee.

In 1998 he was charged with cocaine and marijuana possession but managed to skip out on jail time by making a plea deal.

Three years later, Renfro made headlines again, this time in Florida, when he was charged with trying to steal a yacht in Fort Lauderdale.

I believe his family still has a business here in Knoxville --Renfro Interiors. I can't imagine the grief they must feel.

Update: Here is a round-up of blog posts and news stories on the Knoxville born actor.

I came to your page from Glenn's "Brad Renfro is dead" link this morning.

How odd, I thought. It's not exactly breaking news, as I read this 2 days ago on the blogs.

Then I scrolled down and found him chastising someone for being "behind the times" reporting on another topic -- Goldberg's book.

He doesn't allow comments, but I thought he mind find it a bit... ironic, to say the least. He must not read or keep up as much as he portrays b/c even for celebrity news, this one was all over when it happened.

I wonder how difficult it must be to be a child star and remain normal. I imagine everyone wanting something from the child, I worry about the people they come in contact with, the position that even well meaning parents must be in when the family bread winner can't drive, how that must mess up the dynamics something terrible.

I feel for him and his family.

Hey Mary. It's almost like he just caught wind of this because he has some kind of connection to this Dr. Helen blogger. The fact that she is blogging about Renfro from a local perspective instead of a national one may provide some clue as to why this just caught Glenn's attention.

Hmmm...

It's also worth noting that Glenn did not chastise Hannity for behind behind the times - the reader who sent him an email did. Quotation marks are important when attributing... ummm... quotes.

Was he a screwed up kid who happened to become an actor, or a relatively normal kid who was screwed up by acting? (Not acting itself, of course, but the whole Hollywood thing - surrounded by sycophants, more money than sense, etc.)

He is at peace now. May God hold his family and friends in the palm of His hand, and grant them peace also.

He is not much older than me! I think it is sad when young celebrities get into destructive behavior like this.

He was troubled in the first place it seems. At least according to local news.
