"The spending bill he just passed is just progressing the Democratic agenda rather than addressing the economic issues in the country."

Just when I was starting to think the youth of this country were pretty much brainwashed by the media, I read this article (via Drudge) on the Dobson high school advanced placement students who listened to Obama speak at their school and realized that there is hope:

The students in the class were hopeful things will work out but questioned whether Obama's plan would actually work to dig the country out of its economic woes. They also expected a longer speech.

Senior Syna Daudfar took some notes during the speech and was among the most vocally opposed to Obama's words.

At one point, when he talked about the costs of his stimulus plan, senior Maaike Albach and Daudfar looked at each other and said, "uh-oh."

"Overall I think it's a good idea, but he's not addressing the issues of the economic crisis," said Daudfar, a John McCain supporter who added he leans more toward being a moderate conservative. "The spending bill he just passed is just progressing the Democratic agenda rather than addressing the economic issues in the country."

Daudfar thinks Obama's plan is backward and deals with the "less important stuff" first. "Bailing out businesses" and "providing better regulatory systems for giving out money to businesses" should have been first, he said.

"If businesses can't afford to hire people, then people won't be able to work and pay off their mortgages," he said. "It's kind of like putting money into a funnel."

Albach, who is also a Republican, said Obama's plan sounds good but questioned how Obama can want to rely on "people's responsibility" when that is "what got us in this economic crisis in the first place."

"This puts us more into debt," said Albach, 18. "It's a horrible situation we're in."

Senior Brandon Miller wore a shirt with the words, "Hitler gave great speeches, too" above a picture of Obama.

The advanced placement students may be smarter than average but it does show that many young people in this country can see through Obama's rhetoric.

One thing's for sure, Obama is spending money as fast as he can and these kids will be paying for it.

The stimulus is a lot of money. Yes, we GET that, but really, just how much money is it?

Well, the first thing you need to know is that according to the US treasury, the total cash and coin in circulation is $838,244,111,201

The stimulus bill is $838,000,000,000.

So, in effect, the stimulus bill is basically ALL of the
actual physical US dollars in existence...

But really...how big is that?

According to the treasury, a $1 bill is 6.14" x 2.61" x 0.0043"

so in $1 bills, $838 billion takes up:

57,745,926,360 cubic inches (33,417,781.5 cubic feet)

Now, not too many people can really picture what over fifty
seven Billion cubic inches of cash looks like...

but paper has a density of about 0.030 pounds per cubic inch...

So the 'bill' part of the stimulus bill weighs about 1,732,377,791 pounds, or about 866,189 Tons, but really, what's eight hundred and sixty-six thousand tons of money between friends?

In human terms, that's about the same weight as 9 Nimitz class
nuclear powered aircraft carriers - if the weight of an aircraft
carrier can be considered in 'human' terms.

(FYI: Nimitz class are the big ones, and coincidentally,
nine is how many of those the US has...)

But then who around here has ever tried to lift a nuclear carrier?

How about thinking of it as just a big ol' pile of money?

The World Trade Center's twin towers were 208ft x 208ft x 1377ft each, so stacked up, with the same footprint as one tower, the cash would be 772ft high.

So the stimulus bill is a stack of money a bit over half the size of
one of the twin towers...

And, oh, by the way... it isn't the 'governments' money... it's your tax dollars... and Obama & Congress just spent it after less than 2 days of discussion...

Ok, that's a couple of students. However, if one looks at the voting statistics from the election, the youth vote was something like 70-30 in favor of Obama. Sounds like we heard a portion of the 30 crowd.

I work at a university (not as a professor) and I can honestly say that the vast majority of the students I've come across (and I'm in public service) are still very much behind Obama.

Now, it may be that the AP students have critical thinking skills that most kids lack these days. I'm still not entirely convinced of the hopefulness of this article, since there will always be exceptions to the rule.

The kids had better start putting away the gah-gahness of the siren-song of Obama and understand the fact that all of this bullcrap that he's implementing will be on their shoulders later on.

Aye, I was a University Student who didn't fall for Obama's siren song. Sadly, most of my colleagues did not. However, my professors throw so much crap at us that I'm surprised that 30% of us did vote in a more conservative way.

Further, I applaud these kids for having the guts to critically analysis Obama while being within a sea of Obama drones, especially the kid with the Hitler shirt. I don't even have the guts to do that, I'd probably get thrown out of university for "hate speech" or something weak like that.

If, in one dollar denominations, it were placed side by side, end to end with no gaps, it would cover the entire state of Rhode Island, 38 dollars deep.

"Yeah"

An important and accurate observation. The only mistake would be to believe this isn't intentional. You can justify serious recovery spending on top of 1.2 trillion. You can't justify waste. When the goal is to spend as much as possible you spend in reverse priority. Just as when asked to cut your budget you threaten to close the Washington Monument instead of cutting back on Park Ranger OT in California.

Pretty observant for a high-school student.

I wish I was more of a loser. Obama isn't paying any of my bills yet, and that's really starting to irk me. Maybe I need to ink my face or avoid my taxes and I can get a government job. Be a crook and become part of Obama's cabinet or something. Or really screw up a company and get an Obama bonus. Dang! What am I doing wrong? Got my mortgage paid up too and I think I should have screwed that up.....won't get paid for doing right! Double dang! Messed up again!

I'm surprised Brandon Miller wasn't expelled for hate-speech...despite the fact that his "hate-speech" is true.

Just for amusement's sake:

Millions of the finest American men and women in all stations of life have had to behold with heavy hearts the unity of the nation breaking up and disappearing in a welter of egoistic political theories, selfish business interests and conflicting social doctrines.

...

We have not received the promised equality and fraternity, and we have lost our liberty. The collapse of the spiritual unity at home was followed by the loss to our people of their political standing in the world.

...

Millions of our working class are without work and without means of existence, and the entire middle class is rapidly becoming impoverished.

Who said that? Barack Obama or Adolph Hitler.

Here in the BundesRepublic of Ireland, so called because government ministers drive around in top of the range Mercs and our Führer earns more than the president of the US. Then again we have a population of 400,000,000.

Ooops, that should read 4,000,000.

Let's not procrastinate, mind you it was called going off on a tangent in my day and I will be doing a little bit more of it.

Also, I have (above) spelt government with a small 'g' and president with a small 'p'. Tell me if they deserve to be in Capitals and I will change touché mes amis.

We thought, when Obama was elected, great a change has come at last.....

But alas, we think not ALREADY !

Change ... tell that to the 17,000 troops going to Afghanistan. Afghanistan was Russia's Vietnam and they pulled out.

We all know what happened in Vietnam, Oh yeah, nothing just millions killed, displaced and 50,000+ young men sent home in body bags. Oh, didn't the French lose 52,000 soldiers before that. Sorry folks that wasn't on the agenda at West Point. Sure lets prove the French wrong - Dooh. However, there was a plus, the US could test new weapons of mass descruction (WMD).

We won't mention WMDs, well only briefly, isn't that why the terrorist George Bush invaded another country looking for oil, oops WMDs and found only oil.

Iran here we come, here we come, sure as we have troops all around you we might as well pop in. We hear that you also have WMDs hidden under those beautiful Persian rugs. If there are no WMDs, sure we'll take your oil instead and grenerate lots of contracts, for American companies of course, to help rebuild your country after we destroy it.

Oops Let's not procrastinate,again.

But, at least we are consistent with the US, we are letting our bankers keep their bonuses and restricting their salaries.

Dooh, dooh and more dooh. Having just graduated from the Homer Simpson School of teach yourself Economics for the Taxpayer. After 6 years of study I only learnt that it is the Taxpayer who always picks up the tab.

Isn't it the juicy bonuses that the bankers are only interested in in the first place and their motivational (defined as greedy) reason for getting out of bed !
The salaries are only to keep the air conditioning up high - oops, that's the Kyoto Protocol out the window.

There was a poem that I learnt at school, many many moons ago, as the Indian once said as he was being thrown off HIS land.

Thought I would share it with you. It is called....DEATH THE LEVELLER.

The glories of our church and state
Are shadows, not substantial things;
There is no armour against Fate;
Death lays his icy hand on kings:
Sceptre and Crown
Must tumble down,
And in the dust be equal made
With the poor crookèd scythe and spade.

Some men with swords may reap the field,
And plant fresh laurels where they kill:
But their strong nerves at last must yield;
They tame but one another still:
Early or late
They stoop to fate,
And must give up their murmuring breath
When they, pale captives, creep to death.

The garlands wither on your brow,
Then boast no more your mighty deeds!
Upon Death's purple altar now
See where the victor-victim bleeds.
Your heads must come
To the cold tomb:
Only the actions of the just
Smell sweet and blossom in their dust.

Yes, folks, only the actions of the just smell sweet and blossom in the dust.

As Arnie would say, as he killed another thousand, I'll be back.

May your God go with you.

That is, if there is one. Let me know if you have seen him, I want to have a long talk about this world that he created.
